Home education is a legal alternative to school education in Australia. State governments are responsible for regulating home education.
Different states have different requirements, however homeschooling families are able to develop curriculum and learning programs
to suit the individual needs of their children.

A homeschooling parent will quickly burn out if he or she doesn't learn to delegate work throughout the day. We consider that all the participants in our home life are responsible for the chores and spread the load.

Although we take the lion's share the children have always been involved, and this has resulted in a more equal sharing as they have grown into adolescence, without a lot of the pain experienced by many other families. When asking the children to help I am careful to work with them, modelling the behaviour, attitudes and actions I want them to adopt.

Years of experience has taught me to start off small, with short tasks when the children were little, and being there, supervising, even when they became older, rather than letting them just get on with it themselves. Develop team-work to get things done - this encourages co-operation, dependability and responsibility. Involving the children in what you are doing is a good way to get started. Young children love to help wash dishes, do laundry, cook and clean, but never alone!
