Evaluation and Recording Home Education The easiest and quickest way to build confidence in home educating your children is to keep records. You don't have to keep meticulous records every day, though it certainly helps, but collating a sample of what's happening at home and analysing it educationally every so often will help to boost confidence AND keep the homeschooling learning program on track. Home educators are notorious for underestimating the power of keeping records of their children's learning. Few understand the many benefits and many regard record keeping as a tiresome chore. I know what I know about education, learning and helping children learn at home because I kept records. The evidence I collated (rather haphazardly over a dozen years) became the germ of a book, Getting Started with Homeschooling Practical Considerations, and then a series of Practical Homeschooling Booklets. On this website you will find a growing collection of articles that aim to encoruage you to maintain some kind of record keeping and evaluation regime as a home educator. There are lots of tips and ideas and many examples. If you'd like to share how you keep records or plan and monitor your children's learning at home we'd love to hear from you. Keeping Records
